Came across an interesting post here today which was posing the question of how many shots you could shoot with your DSLR camera before it died.

The person posing the question had heard that after about 100,000 shots that the camera would effectively give up the ghost. And was concerned because, as a keen photographer, he had already shot aver a 1000 pictures in just 5 days of photography. And hence was concerned that in 100 days his camera could be toast.

You can check out the post here.

It is clearly a very common question as a similar thread is in action here, questioning how many shutter releases you can expect from a Nikon D40X before it goes to the camera graveyard.

The official answer seems to be that Nikon actually rate the Nikon D40X for 50,000 shutter releases, but that in practice, many folk seem to get much more use out of it.

In reality, you are better off not worrying about it.

Buy the best camera you can afford and then enjoy using it. It’s not like a car. The demise of a car in use is a big deal, because you could be in it when it crashes!

But when a camera dies, it is, at worst an inconvenience. The actual photo’s are stored on a card. So you will still have those. And you can always get another one, or claim on the guarantee or warranty.

If it happens. It happens.

It’s like life. Enjoy the journey. And don’t unduly stress the prospect of the old folks home (hopefully!) many years from now!
