My eye was caught this morning by this post

Which was speculating about all the fun tech gadgetry that we might possibly expect in 2010.
Several companies have been working feverishly on bringing 3D television to the masses. Something that has been talked about ever since I can remember back in the 1980′s, but which has somehow never quite happened.
I wonder if this is the year it has its breakthrough?
Maybe. In my experience you can generally add a few years onto the hype before something goes seriously mainstream. However, the fact that big cable channels such as ESPN are now actively looking at the technology, and already have a testing setup for sports broadcasts, which uses a camera that records with dual lenses to produce the 3d effect, is a positive sign.
Panasonic and Sony both have 3D TV systems in the pipeline for this year. But crucially, all the current 3D systems require 3D glasses. Which, lets be honest, is kinda lame. Until they can figure out a way of being able to watch 3D with just the built in equipment we already have (errrr our eyes); then the technology will not have caught up with our desire for what 3D should really be about.
