With the groundbreaking cinema release of Avatar earlier in 2009, it seems that 3D technology is finally coming of age to the mainstream.
Most of us have been exposed to cheesy examples of 3D down the years (Jaws 3D springs to mind), and yet it has never captured the popular imagination in anything other then a geeky, curiousity way.
Until Now?
I was reminded by this Press Release that Decemember 4th 2008 saw the San Diego Chargers take on the Oakland Raiders. Nothing particularly odd about that… Except… That it was the first live 3D broadcast on TV.
How times have changed.
Makes me wonder whatever will be next for photography and 3D?
How soon before we are no longer talking about the amount of megapixels that our cameras have. But are instead are talking about the ‘holographic depth’ of an image?
