Learn How to Make Money with Photography by Selling Photos
Do you ever get jealous? I really do, especially when it comes to my digital camera gear. I’m sure drooling over the Canon 100-400mm lens at the present time. Down the road, who knows. Yet one particular matter is for sure, it will be something.
However I truly need to confess the fact that the Canon 100-400mm lens has actually been on my personal hit list for some time. I’ve got some great lenses, though. Actually, I have a Canon 70-200mm f4, that’s probably my best lens.
Several of the reasons the Canon 100-400mm lens tops the list to be my next buy:
1. The zoom range is exactly right for my requirements. I shoot lots of bird pictures, and right now I need to consider innovative ways to get closer. The zoom to 400mm would be much better than the 200mm I am shooting with right now. Furthermore, when you put this lens upon any camera with a APS-C image sensor, such as a Rebel or perhaps 60D, you obtain 1.6x the declared focal length (680mm). Which is fantastic.
2. It is deemed an L series lens. Which is Canon’s highest quality lens class. You get better image quality, better engineering, plus, you will have plenty of folks looking and appreciating your equipment (see the tale below).
3. Nature Photography needs a lens such as this. For us poor folks who can’t afford the prime lenses at 400 or 500mm, this specific lens is the next most suitable option. I mentioned previously taking photos of birds, but a majority of natural subjects won’t come up close and say “cheese.” You truly need a lens that will get to them. So when you might be walking through the wilds of Alaska or simply strolling through your local town, a telephoto lens at this length is just what you’ll need.
So here is the story of my personal recent experience with “lens envy.”
I’d been driving to the office at exactly the right time in the early morning for the sun’s rays being great for a specific photo I had been thinking about. It’s a horse farm and stable which is close to the intersection where I turn. There are a few lovely chestnut horses grazing in the pasture upon a sloping hill with a tiny barn in the foreground.
It was the actual picture I was envisioning. So I along side of the street just after turning the corner. I got my Canon digital slr from the bag and fastened my 70-200mm zoom lens to it. I proceeded to cross the street and take up my position close to the fencing. I snapped a few pictures and relocated in order to take a few more. I checked the rear monitor to see how the shots were turning out.
I was a bit disappointed that I was so far away from the hillside. I would have to do some cropping after I got the photos uploaded to my computer.
At that point I heard something to my left and glanced over to see another guy doing exactly what I was doing. He had a Canon and I could see the familiar grayish color and size of a Canon 100-400mm lens. I’m sure I turned green with envy.
In spite of my feelings about his lens, I had no ill feelings about him so I began a conversation, and he said that seeing me taking those shots had given him the courage to stop and do the same. We spoke for a few minutes, and upon parting, he gave me the name of a website where I could view the images he had shot of the horses.
Needless to say, i was again so jealous when I saw them. I am looking forward to opening a box with a Canon 100-400mm lens, perhaps it will be on some special occasion like my birthday or April 5th (the date is insignificant – any day will do). Just hoping my wife will get the hint when she reads this.
I’m sure there will be in my possession a Canon 100-400mm lens one day soon. Well, it’s actually just one of the lenses on my want list. You can see some of the others on my website, which is devoted to Canon lenses. Check it out at http://www.canoneoslenses.org.
Happy Shooting!
